I had a really good experience here. I moved to the neighborhood about a month ago and popped in here. Zak was so kind and informative about the business and about the folks who collaborated with lots of love to curate a beautiful business. Very charming grocery products and little gifts here and there. I saw stuff for babies and pets as well. This is a specialty place. Not a 711. It's going to reflect that in the prices period. I loved it. While I can't do my weekly grocery shopping here I can definitely go enjoy the vibes and pick up a cool artisan chocolate bar or many other gorgeous products they offer. They even had organoc kewpie mayo! That made me so happy as an organic junky! Thank you for being there! It's truly a work of art ✨️

I don't like that I have to write this review, but bad business practices need to be called out. TLDR: Hidden tips and dogs on tables at a restaurant/grocery store 1) I ordered a $15 sandwich from the counter. It's an expensive sandwich, but it's a nice place. The suggested tip pops up as $1 which I think happens to be a very reasonable ask for counter service where I bus my own table. But I see the total comes to $20 which can't be right. So I text myself the receipt. 3% credit card surcharge? Am I even allowed to pay with cash anymore? 15% hospitality surcharge...for counter service. The service included someone taking my order at the counter and someone dropping off my sandwich. At no point in time was I presented with any information that these fees were going to get tacked on. I find it very bad taste to ask for a tip when you're already tipping yourself. If you believe 15% is fair for your workers well-being, fine, remove the tipping question and provide understanding that an order comes with an auto-grat. 2) As I was eating my sandwich, the woman in my direct eye-line placed her dog on the table as she prepped her stuff to leave. My family have been regulars since opening for reference. We live in the area and used to come daily. But now, it’s too difficult to ignore how crappy this place is once you get take off the novelty glasses. Recently and at random times since they’ve existed, Tiny Grocer charges an additional % for whatever you buy seemingly at random. This is ridiculous. The other day the $5 protein snack bar I bought ended up costing $6.50 (a 15% up charge at the register). And another thing—the tips during payment on items bought at checkout is seriously insulting. Nah I’m good not wanting to pay further on the already $$$ items I’m buying. On average we could spend easily $75+ on items here. There is no reality where I’m giving a 20% or similar tip on that. Ownership, think about the optics here and how you are actively pushing your once very loyal customers away. And I’ll just say this—drag tea parties are the future at this place eh? This is the kind of atmosphere and clientele you are banking the store on? Good luck.

While this location of Tiny Grocer is mostly a grocery store, it also has a decently sized casual cafe with fantastic food. Two of us had dinner last night, sharing the potato Daupine starter. Then I had the chicken paillard (deliciously cooked chicken breast topped with a salad of lettuces, cucumber and tomato, in a lovely vinaigrette). We shared a side of the haricot vert. My friend had the frisée and endive salad. All in all, the best meal I had on this brief trip to Austin. Would definitely go back for the food, and the really nice and attentive people working there made it delightful

Keep in mind that I’m a 59 year old redneck white man from Louisiana who’s lived in Austin since 1986. I went to Tiny Grocer yesterday because of Steph’s TikTok burger video spoofing that ridiculous McDonald’s CEO eating the Big Arch. Excellent parody, but the look of the burger is what got me to go try it. And why I found is that it’s not only an exceptional burger, it’s a very cool store with a great feel. Tons of really cool, unique grocery items, great beers and drinks in the coolers, and lots of different indoor and outdoor seating options (bar, booths, tables.) I love this place and I’m grateful for their existence and effort. The place looks clean, is clean, feels clean, and just feels good. In my experience of Austin spots going from a focus on the food and hospitality to the “vibe,” this place does both very very well. I heard someone complain about how the burger was expensive, but honestly it was worth it. I got a double patty (14oz) plus bacon and fried egg and it was $30. I would’ve paid $40. In the restaurant business, there’s no substitute for care and effort, and Tiny Grocer evidently understands that. 🏆
